Huis de Voorst
History
Arnold Joost van Keppel, landed gentry of somewhat constrainted means, was presented by his father as sqioe at the court of King Stadhouder Willem III who had just begun to reside at his splendid new Palace Het Loo in Appeldoorn- King Stadhouder, happened to be a man of great power in his time: husband (widower) of Mary Stuart,(dies 1692) and King of England., Van Keppel soon won his sympathy and became his boon companion. That enabled Arnold Joost Van Keppel, Count of Albemarle, Baron of Ashford, Margrave of Bury, in 1695 to commission the architects of Het Loo, Roman and Marot, to build the majestic pocket palace, Huis de Voorst, a replica of Het Loo on his ancestral estate in Eefde.
The magnificent palace soon was called “Versailles of the Achterhoek” and came to be used as a “lieu de plaissance” for Albermarle and the King Stadhouder to entertain many an exalted guest. After the “Van Keppel Period” many aristocratic families acquired, resided at and re-sold the estate. Come 18 August 1948, the building saw its lowest point when the main building burnt down because of a careless housepainter. In 1957 and subsequently in the years 2003 2005, it was fully restored with an interior to match in taste and style the magnificent tone of the house.

Description
Being an exquisite manor "Huis de Voorst" combines a truly unique combination of features making it suitable for all sorts of events. The cosy ambience and the warm touch of the interior design provide for a very intimate vibe. "Huis de Voorst" contains a great number of halls with each an atmosphere of its very own, such as the King’s Room (Koningskamer) with its open fireplace and a great view onto the backside park.
The Gravinnekamer (Countess Chamber) with its French doors granting access and view of the English Gardens. The sophisticated library with its bar and the Henry Purcell Hall with its classy and tasteful interior design amongst numerous pier glasses and candle arrangements. Not to forget the exuberant Van Albemarle-Bar, situated in a brick arch cellar. Held in mild green tones one immediately feels relegated into an old English pharmacy. When the weather is nice, nothing should stop a celebration party from taking it outside into the English Gardens.
Such an array of rooms with an individual atmosphere will not only take the guests back to days long gone, it will even the more get you party going by encouraging its participants to move from one room to another! Simply, because there’s so much to see!
To celebrate a stylish open air at the site in summertime, the park ideally is being equipped with a transportable ballroom construction, which is quickly set up and connected to the rear of the house by a walkway.
A more extensive group celebration is no problem that way, neither is the creation of different atmospheres, such as a more classic one inside the palace or, to meet a rather modern taste, outside in the park or with the transportable ballroom.
